U.S. Department of Commerce launches seventh softwood lumber tariff review
On February 21, 2025, the U.S. Department of Commerce officially launched the seventh administrative review of antidumping duties (AD) and CVDs on certain softwood lumber products from Canada.
Background
Each year (unless the case is resolved), an administrative review is conducted to recalculate the antidumping and subsidy rates for the review period (January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024) and to establish new cash deposit rates for future shipments. If an interested party submits a request for a specific review of a company to the Ministry of Commerce, the company will be reviewed.
Future Outlook
The Commerce Department said it expects to publish final results of those reviews by January 31, 2026.
LumberFlow Expert Interpretation
The review by the U.S. Department of Commerce may increase the supply of Canadian lumber to overseas markets and push up the price of American lumber. With the launch of the tariff review, the supply chain risk of softwood lumber may increase in the future, leading to greater price volatility. Chinese importers need to pay close attention to these changes when making purchasing decisions to ensure the stability of their supply and cost control. In addition, understanding the upcoming tariff changes will help develop more effective purchasing strategies.
