according toWTVASoutheastern Wood Products plans to invest more than $120 million to expand its sawmill in Ackerman, Mississippi, the report said. The project is expected to create 40 new jobs.
Southeastern Timber Products is a family-owned and operated manufacturer of southern pine lumber, lumber and deck products in continuous operation since 1972. In November 2018, British Columbia-based Tolko Industries and Southeastern Timber Products entered into a joint venture partnership to form Southeastern Timber Products, LLC (STP-Tolko Partnership).
The Mississippi Development Authority said the company will install new saw lines, drying kilns and storage facilities to produce more products, with plans to increase annual production from 120 million board feet to 300 million board feet.
Southeastern Wood Products received tax incentives from the state and support from Choctaw County to make this expansion a reality.
LumberFlow Expert Interpretation
This expansion project will significantly increase Southeast Timber’s production, helping to meet the Chinese market’s demand for timber. With increased production capacity, price fluctuations may be somewhat suppressed, providing a more stable supply chain for Chinese timber importers. In addition, increased investment and the establishment of new facilities will reduce supply chain risks, giving importers more confidence in their purchasing decisions. The Chinese market’s timber demand will therefore be effectively met, and it may also lead to price stabilization in the short term.
